Our Story.
Prior to founding Homebase, Blake Miller led a groundbreaking smart city project. This $35 million public-private partnership involved collaboration with Kansas City, Cisco, and Sprint, paving the way for an innovative transformation. This initiative resulted in the world’s largest public WiFi networks and introduced transit WiFi for the Kansas City Streetcar.
Local real estate developers, inspired by the project’s success, approached Blake with the idea of integrating smart thermostats in their apartment communities. However, Blake envisioned a more comprehensive solution that would connect both people and IoT, all without a hub – taking smart living to the next level, and creating a seamless, interconnected living experience.
Fast forward to 2023, Homebase has successfully raised approximately $15 million in funding and built a strong team of 40 people based in Kansas City, MO. Boasting partnerships with over 50 ecosystem partners, Homebase has expanded its offerings and now leverages its managed WiFi, access control, and integrated smart device systems to work toward the decarbonization of buildings through automation. With a clear vision for the future, Homebase is committed to continuing its mission of connecting communities, enhancing residents’ experiences, and improving building operations for owners, all without the need to raise rents.
