Meet the Team: Raul

Raul is a musician, former property manager, father of three, and a Customer Success expert. He brings his sense of humor and positive energy to every interaction, and our customers love him so much that they have suggested cloning him.  We sat down with Raul to learn what makes him tick.

What is your favorite pump-up song?

Cadillac by Mest. I would listen to it with my brother in my Ford Escort fishtailing and doing donuts around Blue Springs, when I was 18. 

If you could be any superhero, who would you be?

Spider-Man, hands down. There’s no other answer to that question.

How has your career path led you to Homebase?

Being in property management was rewarding in so many ways, but as the years went on, I was always looking for ways to connect with my residents. When I got introduced to Homebase, I saw potential. I thought, “One day, I would like to do that,”  then the stars aligned, and I found my opportunity.

You have a background in music as well, right?

Yes. That’s the curveball part of it all. I was touring as a professional guitarist and did session work on guitar as well as produced and engineered for artists. I wanted to be doing that for the rest of my life, but life circumstances changed that for me. I still dabble in music a little.

How does your previous experience as a property manager impact what you do here?

The biggest thing is that on the Customer Success team at Homebase, I can nurture the thing I loved most about property management. I can connect with people and help them. 

That’s always been my favorite part of life in general, honestly. It was a huge thing in music, too, and it has always carried over.

Is there anything you think most people don’t understand about being a property manager?

The biggest thing is that the strain of demands from owners and regionals about occupancy and delinquency can get in the way of building relationships with residents. Those priorities are part of your job, but you’ll find it more rewarding if you keep your relationships with residents intact. That creates a ripple effect. If everyone is happy, they will want to invite others, and they will understand the value of their apartment, so they will pay their rent on time. It makes your job easier.

What is your favorite recent memory?

I went to a pool party with my kids, and being there and playing with my kids in the pool brought back my childhood memories.  My dad would pretend to be a shark and scare the crap out of me, so I did that with my kids.  It was just kind of nice to see life come full circle.
