Do you have tickets to the big game in Minneapolis this weekend? If you do, we’re jealous and you can skip the rest of this post. However, if you’re like us and one of the 100+ million people who will be tuning in to watch the biggest NFL game of the year from home, keep on scrolling.
Next Sunday’s game is unlike any other sports game day of the year – it’s for all the marbles and has evolved from a football game to an entertainment extravaganza. Watching the big game huddled around your TV is great, but what about amplifying the experience with your smart devices? We’ve got a few tips and tricks up our sleeves to kick the big game day experience up a notch.
How to Create the Ultimate Game Day Scene
Light up your game experience
As a team of sports fans, we’ve invested the time in smartening up our game day experience and for us, it starts with lighting. Are you an Eagles or Patriots fan? Show it! Choose your team’s color, and flash your LIFX lights every time there’s an in-game or final score for your team. For best effect apply to every light in your home and accompany with wild cheering (disclaimer: no responsibility taken for neighborhood noise complaints).
Remotely referee the kitchen
Ultimate game day relaxation doesn’t start until your seated in a prime viewing location with an array of snacks and a cold glass of your favorite beverage in hand. The sips and snacks of game day are key because they fuel better sideline commentary, cheering and celebration dances. We’re sticklers about keeping the fridge stocked on game day and the LG ThinQ smart appliances make it easy. With the LG SmartThinQ app, you can check the contents of the refrigerator, including what’s in the door anytime, anywhere. You can even keep an eye on the Buffalo Chicken Dip cooking in the oven so you can see exactly when it reaches bubbly, cheesy dipping perfection. SCORE.
Do away with door time timeouts
There are always people coming and going on game day, but don’t get up! Keep your coveted spot on the couch and don’t miss a single play or multi-million dollar commercial spot. Just answer the door from your smartphone with Skybell’s smart video doorbell. Using Skybell you can see, hear, and speak to anyone at the door. Don’t fear a random pizza guy showing up in the middle of Justin Timberlake’s halftime performance. You can quickly send him next door without missing a beat. But when your chronically late friend shows up in the middle of Justin’s halftime performance, you can quiz them on their JT knowledge before letting them in using the Kevo smart lock.
‘Flag’ for spiking temperature
When it comes time for kickoff, we want to be surrounded by all our family and friends to share in the experience. However, this creates a problem of spiking body heat. To make sure everyone keeps their jerseys on (no one wants a shirtless Uncle Larry sitting next to them on the couch). We turn to the Alexa-controlled Ecobee smart thermostat for help. Because most thermostats read the temperature in one place (usually the hallway), this can make other rooms uncomfortable. Ecobee thermostats can pair with room sensors to deliver the preferred temperature to the rooms that matter. Allowing you to manage pesky hot or cold spots, and keep everyone cool and comfortable.
These are just a few ways we’ll be taking advantage of our smart devices for the big game. However you choose to celebrate this Sunday, we wish you all a safe and happy game day! If you’re interested in learning what else smart devices can do to upgrade your apartment living experience beyond game day, let’s talk!
