July 19, 2017, Kansas City, MO — Homebase, a smart apartment and intelligent building platform for the multi-family industry, announced today $500,000 in additional funding. The round was led by strategic partners JE Dunn Construction Group and Sunflower Development Group with participation from Will Winkler of PSW Real Estate, Andrew Brain of Brain Family Development and John Meyer of Lemonly.
Homebase, an emerging IoT service provider in the smart home space, has brought to market a category-defining software platform that acts as the modern operating system for multi-family communities and rental properties. Homebase gives property owners, managers and developers a competitive advantage by integrating and utilizing the latest in Internet of Things (IoT) smart home technology – on demand smart LED lighting, energy saving smart thermostats, smart access control and other intelligent building systems – all mobile phone accessible. The Homebase platform merges community and property management tools with intelligent and connected building automation to deliver a modern, yet simple, residential living experience that’s so much more than just granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. The platform enables seamless access to all controls and systems through one integrated property management dashboard and resident applications–both on premise and remote cloud accessible.
“What’s exciting, is that property managers and owners can now create the ultimate smart living experience for their residents and make additional revenue in the process,” said Blake Miller, CEO of Homebase. “It’s really a win-win for everyone, not only can property managers ensure their buildings are safer and more energy efficient, they can improve internal operations and while lowering operational costs.”
Homebase has been beta testing the platform with Marvel Properties in apartment communities around the Kansas City area since February 2017. Andrew Brain of Marvel Properties thinks Homebase gives their communities an edge in an increasingly competitive market. “As we looked for partners to help us develop a better living experience for our residents, we considered several but decided to partner with Homebase because they care about the entirety of the living experience of our residents. Smart apartments are not only a smart move for landlords to stay competitive but offer more opportunities for profitability through increased rent and decreased expenses.”
In addition to these first local deployments, Homebase is designing multiple smart communities concepts that are currently under construction in Kansas City and Austin with planned delivery in the second half of 2017.
Apartment and multi-family living, especially in growing cities, is a rising trend. Research from the NMMC suggest that the US will need 4.6 million new apartments by 2030 (new construction of 325,000+ apartment homes every year to meet demand;). Homebase is there to connect every one of them.
Homebase was founded in early 2016 with the mission to develop a new standard for multi-family home technology and connected services. The team, partners, and advisors are made up of real estate and technology professionals who understand the service and technology needs of the modern multi-family community.
